CT

Computed Tomography (CT) is a diagnostic imaging tool used to obtain images of internal organs, bones, soft tissue, and blood vessels using x-rays and computer technology to create multiple images that make up a 3D image.

These cross-sectional images, known as slices, provide detailed information of internal organs and is best used for imaging of the chest, abdomen and pelvis. CT’s use low-dose x-rays which minimize radiation exposure to the patient while also providing exceptional clarity and detail greater than a standard x-ray.

CT is often used in emergency situations because it is a fast and detailed imaging modality that allows doctors to assess your condition quickly and can reveal any internal injuries and bleeding. CT imaging is typically the best method for detecting cancer since it allows radiologists to confirm the presence of a tumor and determine its size, shape, location, and the blood vessels supplying it, all without exploratory surgery. Depending on the purpose of the exam and the needs of the patient, a CT scan may be performed with or without contrast.

At TGH Imaging, we offer 16-Slice CT units at most locations allowing us to provide a wide range of exams. CT scanners look like a wide tube that is significantly shorter in length than an MRI tube. It has a wide opening that gives the patient more of an open-air feel during the exam. A patient can expect a comfortable experience that is fast, painless, noninvasive, and accurate with the help of our expertly trained technologists who are there to help you through every step.

To prepare for your exam you should have nothing by mouth three hours prior to exam. If your exam requires contrast, you must arrive 2 hours prior to appointment drink oral contrast.
